Let’s Go Gotham, Let’s Go!

Saturday October 19th marked the first day of filming for Zach Snyder’s next installment of the Superman franchise. As is widely known, the next film includes a match up with Batman. My son and I were in for a real treat when we were invited to an open shoot at East LA College that was transformed to Gotham City University for an all-American game of football.

IMG_20131019_155526_750

Tickets were only $5 to see the East LA College Huskies take on Victor Valley at Weingart stadium. Included with the price of admission was a raffle ticket, a free shirt or hoodie (five or six different designs, one size fits all, we took what we were handed) and a halftime show that featured Zach Snyder directing booked background and extras.

After the first quarter of the real football game, a representative from Warner Brothers welcomed the crowd and explained how things would work. There were three scenes filmed. Two that included Gotham City University making favorable plays and one where Metropolis State University caught a hail Mary touchdown pass, much to the fans chagrin, causing the players to end up in a dog pile brawl. The crowd had a lot of fun getting into the fake game, we shouted all the standard sports chants including “WE WANT BEER!”

Gotham’s colors were black and gold as seen below while Metropolis sported gray and red jerseys with incredibly shiny silver helmets (men of steel for sure!).

BvSFootballJerseys

Mr Snyder apparently selected East LA College as a way to contribute to an impoverished community. I think it helped the local football team as well to have an additional thousand or so fans cheering them on during the normal game. They were up 14 to 0 by half time. Kudos to the college on the concessions as well: cheeseburgers and bacon wrapped hot dogs only $3, sodas $1 a pop.

Here’s some exclusive footage I took while on location:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ea-nop_rS28&w=580&h=435?rel&showinfo=0

No, we unfortunately did not see Ben Affleck or Henry Cavill. Rumors ran rampant that Ben filmed a scene earlier in the locker room giving a pep talk to the GCU team, however reading more about the event online I find that unlikely. Principal filming is supposed to kick off in February 2014.

IMG_20131019_171913_860

So why a football game? Was it a flashback scene? Was it about philanthropy or supporting alma maters? I guess we’ll have to wait until the movie’s finished or something leaks. But in the meantime, let the speculation begin in the comments!

Last Saturday night on The Unsealed Files we learned about men in black, and no I’m not talking about Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones.  These men in black (MIB) appear to those who have observed a UFO or other unearthly encounter with the purpose of interrogating and silencing. The very rumor of their existence has influenced popular culture, literature and cinema.

Much the same way as described in the feature film, the elusive men are immaculately dressed in black suits, long coats, hats and glasses. They sometimes appear in unmarked black sedans and have been reported to even arrive by helicopter. Men in black refer to each other by number rather than name. Witnesses have described tall, imposing figures with hairless faces (no eyebrows or eyelashes) that arrive usually in the dead of the night when the witnesses are alone.

Are they from the U.S. government? Are they part of a worldwide organization (Interpol or the U.N. maybe)? Or are they,

Ba ba BAAAAA

ALIENS?!

MIB3

Solway Firth Spaceman

As described in a previous episode regarding the Solway Firth Spaceman, Jim Templeton was visited and interviewed by two MIB shortly after discovering a spaceman standing behind his daughter in a photograph he had taken. The two men had Jim take them to the marsh where the sighting occurred. They showed him a badge with a crest and the word “Security” written on it. Throughout the interrogation they asked Jim about the weather conditions, farm animals in the area and whether there were any other witnesses. The MIB asked Jim where he saw the second spaceman. Jim insisted there was only one spaceman at which point they reportedly became hostile and told him they thought he made the entire thing up. When Jim requested to see their identification they quickly ended the interview and drove off , leaving Jim standing in the marsh.

The significance of Jim’s encounter is that the men in black appeared in the U.K. therefore ruling out the possibility of an exclusively American government operation.

509th Bomb Group

Responsible for dropping the bomb on Hiroshima, the Air Force’s 509th Bomb Group was stationed near Roswell, NM and recovered the wreckage from the infamous UFO crash in 1947. Remaining anonymous, the daughter of a member of this regiment was interviewed with her voice altered and her appearance in shadows. She was convinced her father was a MIB. So intense was her fear, she remained silent about her beliefs until her father passed away. Now she is looking for the truth.

Niagara Falls

In 2009, witnesses at a hotel in Canada, including the hotel manager, observed a black triangle shaped UFO hover over Niagara Falls before slowly drifting away. Shortly after the sighting two MIB entered the hotel and requested to see the hotel manager. They were described as intimidating and hostile, interrogating people in the lobby. Scared hotel guests called security to report the men. Below is video captured from the security camera showing the men entering the lobby.

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVxr9oAtLrM&w=580&h=435?rel&showinfo=0]

Enhanced and zoomed in, the two men appeared to have hairless faces.

Additional footage shown on The Unsealed Files highlights the bell hop, that moved to the left side of the atrium as the men entered, walk back in to the lobby intently staring in the direction of the two men. Also shown is a young boy, that leaves the lobby, continually looking back in their direction. When the boy exits the building he stops at the door, turns around and peers in through the glass in the same direction.

Who Are The Men In Black?

It wouldn’t be The Unsealed Files if we didn’t connect this back to aliens. The presumptive conclusion and speculation is that MIB are shape shifting aliens sent to do damage control after a sighting. They purposely intimidate witnesses to silence them. Witnesses of MIB have described the men as moving robotically and having telepathic (mind-reading) abilities.

I don’t know man. Where are the police reports describing these events of people being harassed? Were they all that scared? And if they were that scared, how have we heard ANY stories about MIB? Is the fear of the unknown causing witnesses to imagine or distort their memories of the behaviors of the investigators? Who knows. But it’s scary enough for me to consider an emergency plan for late night intruders (something I probably should have thought about anyway).

Hope everyone enjoyed this week’s spooky adventure. If you know of additional MIB tales, please share in the comments below.

Every Sci-fi fan who came of age in or around the 1980’s knows that there is one movie that truly changed and shaped our lives in a way no other movie again could ever do.

It molded our ideas about the purpose of life, satisfied our natural curiosities, and instantly gave us a sense of community and identity that we could be proud of.

As most of you have already guessed, I am speaking of that instant cult-classic known as “Revenge of the Nerds.”

Who can deny that being identified as a sci-fi geek in the ‘70’s-‘80’s era took courage? I don’t mean just a Star Wars fan, but a true honest-to-God sci-fi junkie. It bore an automatic stigma, probably due to the profoundly brainy subject matter, that invited a quiet ostracization from most, the ridicule of the “cool” crowd, and regular threats of wedgies from the school bullies.

But that all changed with “Revenge of the Nerds.” Suddenly, there it was on the big screen (or an a badly pirated VHS tape from a buddy’s HBO recording that you watched discretely one night while your parents were out) – nerds could party too…and maybe even get lucky!

Lewis and Gilbert, with the ingenuity of all their nerd friends, (watch it, I’m sure you’ll relate to at least one of them) take on the status quo; and, while only attempting to create a place of fraternity and belonging, they launched the first wave of a true nerd revolution. Who didn’t experience that thrill of hope when Poindexter discovered the loophole that required U. N. Jackson to give them a chance with Lambda Lambda Lambda? Who didn’t tear up as Lamar took Wormser under his wing? Who didn’t cheer as Booger defeated the mighty Ogre at drinking and belching? And let’s face it. You needed a drool rag after the raid on the Pi Delta Psi house.

revenge-of-the-nerds

But there were at least two other moments that set the movie apart as a sort of anthem for all of Geekdom. First is the scene where Lewis seduces Stan’s girlfriend Betty. It was as if a light went on for many male nerds around the world (and for many women who wondered what we might be like). You can find love – even if it is just a cheap five minute physically intimate imitation of it that you had to steal while posing as someone cool and that could wind up getting you arrested. It was at least possible now.

The second seminal scene is at the end when Gilbert gives his impassioned speech about the treatment of people who are different. This was a turning point not just for the film, but for a nation…a world actually. Suddenly everyone everywhere knew the truth. We are all really nerds at heart*…except bullies. Bullies suck!

Thanks to the lasting impact* “Revenge of the Nerds” had on an entire generation, not only is it cool to be a nerd, and in some cases desired, a case could be made that it spurred both the anti-bullying movement and internet web-cams. Say it with me…NERDS! NERDS! NERDS! NERDS! NERDS!

* It is important to note that a lesser known film titled “The Breakfast Club” that was released a year later echoed a similar theme. Some have tried to make the case that it was responsible for the cultural shift towards acceptance, but it clearly stole it’s theme from “Revenge of the Nerds” and in my humble opinion did an inferior job on the subject.

It’s been a little over a week since the release of Man of Steel, Zach Snyder’s reboot of the Superman franchise, and after seeing it twice I think I’ve digested the film well enough to have firm opinions to share. This version of our friendly indestructible hero is reputed to be darker than previous incarnations, however I’d say its a bit more serious. Gone is the campiness and silly nerd humor established by the actor that set the bar for all Supermen to come, Christopher Reeve. Gone are the fantastic one-liners of our favorite villain General Zod, originally portrayed by Terence Stamp. What we have is new, fresh and exciting while paying the appropriate amount of homage to its predecessors Superman The Movie and Superman II.

jorel

Man of Steel brings a new depth to the old story. Beginning on Krypton with the first natural birth in centuries, Jor-El is faced with the tragic reality that his home planet’s core is imploding. The council disagrees with his scientific assessment but is soon brought to their knees by the insurgency of General Zod, who shares Jor-El’s view of the upcoming doom but has a widely different view as to what should be done. Zod’s insidious plot is comprised of selecting specific blood lines for salvation. Jor-El, on the other hand, believes the entire world and its people are doomed and that their only hope to preserve the race is to embed the DNA of all blood lines into his natural born son, Kal-El, who is sent to Earth to start a new. Both strategies result in the death of people. Oddly, General Zod’s strategy would have saved more Kyptonian lives. Jor-El’s strategy ensured the mistakes of the past wouldn’t be repeated. I’m sure there will be long debates as to which plan was better or worse, but I think the point was that it isn’t ok to discriminate.

1371285768552

Ultimately Zod kills Jor-El but is captured, tried for treason and pledges to find and kill the son of Jor-El. He and his followers are enslaved for what is supposed to be an eternity in the Phantom Zone, which is done a MILLION times better than the old compact mirror IMHO.

When we rejoin Kal-El, now known as Clark Kent, he is a drifter taking odd jobs. We’re treated to flashbacks of his youth where he was socially awkward and an outcast. Encouraged to hide his abilities by his adoptive father Jonathon Kent (played by Kevin Costner), Clark displays incredible strength and senses but is treated as a freak of nature when he unintentionally exposes his talents. He shows a real caring and concern for others as well as frustration with those around him.

944175_530881583634967_1178031460_n

In learning of an unidentified object encased in 20,000 year old ice, Clark takes a job on the excavation crew where he meets Lois Lane for the first time. The object turns out to be an old scout ship from Krypton.

Now without recaping the entire movie I’d like to point out some things that I really enjoyed as well as a couple of plot holes I think should have been reconsidered.

Likes

1) Russell Crowe and Kevin Costner gave superior performances in Man of Steel compared to Marlon Brando and Glenn Ford from the 70s-80s Superman franchise. I never liked that Superman’s parents both on Krypton and his adoptive Earth parents were so much older than him. The relationships made more sense to me, they appeared more real and sincere and the characters all had much greater depth.

2) Michael Shannon trumped Terence Stamp’s Zod. Zod had a real purpose for wanting to kill Superman and there was more than just egotistical mania to support his plot to take over Earth.

3) The parallels were very nicely done and in most cases subtle. The bus falling off the bridge, the fight between Zod and the Army in the small town, the Epic battle in Metropolis.

4) We didn’t have to deal with any goofy, cheap elements compared to the campiness of Superman II.

5) Superman wasn’t forbidden to form an intimate relationship with a human, in fact he was encouraged to do so. It was the whole point of having the codex embedded into his DNA. Brilliant! I hated that aspect of Superman II and thought the whole part about giving up his powers to date Lois was absolutely ridiculous.

6) The special effects and new visualization of Superman’s skills were effing amazing.

7) Superman was majorly built. Definitely eye candy. Loved it!

Man of Steel

Dislikes

1) Too much destruction and violence. The movie relied way too heavily on CGI and could’ve used more story. They did so great with the story elements they included such as the alien invasion scene and the escape from Krypton that I know they could’ve given us more.

2) Henry Cavill and Amy Adams didn’t reach the level of performance IMHO of Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder. There wasn’t a whole lot to adult Superman and Lois. This is mostly directed at Lois. Margot was so much fun and so spunky while Christopher was such a perfect goody two shoes and so handsome. It may take time to get used to these actors. Hopefully in the sequel they will get more depth.

3) If the atmosphere was such a major plot point, why could they all breathe in space? That seemed to be a big hole for me.

4) There were no epic lines.

1044431_170712083106563_1223833370_n

5) I liked Ursa better than Fiora. To clarify, Fiora kicked massive ass and really outperformed Ursa, but I have an affinity to the character as my friends thought I was her doppleganger in high school. 🙂

Overall, I really enjoyed it and thought there was a lot of new details that made the story very interesting. However, I’m not a comic book reader so I really can only compare it against the previous movie franchise (let’s pretend that other reboot didn’t happen, shall we?).

My son on the other hand disliked it so much that he thought Superman II was better. I told him he should re-watch Superman II because I don’t think he properly remembers just how cheesy it was. Which we did over the weekend and he still swears it’s better.

What did you think? Tell us in the comments.

It’s 2013 for crying out loud! Where’s my jet pack, hover car and time travel chamber?! Some of these things we know exist but are not exactly accessible to the everyday consumer. Others only exist in science fiction, or do they? According to The Unsealed Files, time travel may be out there and may have been in use as far back as ancient Egypt.

As mentioned in my recap of last week’s episode, ancient hieroglyphics depict inventions far in the future. How did they know what a helicopter would look like? Why did they carve images seemingly of flying saucers? One explanation was exposure to aliens (as is the favorite explanation of the show), however another was time travel. Did ancient Egyptians get a glimpse of the future using time travel technology?

Hipster at 1941 Bridge Opening

The below photo was taken in 1941 at a bridge opening. The photo has not been altered and has been the subject of much debate. One man appears to have a haircut that is not consistent with the style of the era. He appears to be wearing a silk screen shirt decades before the process was invented. And he appears to be holding a compact camera that is also decades ahead of the photographic technology for that day and age.

201004161615

The main fear in time travel is the butterfly effect. That if someone was to go back and do something as benign as step on an ant, it could forever alter evolution and perhaps if interrupt the existence of humans. Despite the risks, The Unsealed Files shared with us some examples of speculated time travel events that may have impacted our lives but most certainly did not end the human race.

Die Glocke, The Nazi Bell Time Travel Machine

It is believed that the Nazis while exploring every possible way to advance their technological genius spent a lot of time, money and the lives of their scientists to develop the Nazi Bell time travel machine, Die Glocke. Approximately 9 feet wide and 10  to 15 feet tall, this imposing metal bell shaped structure contained two counter-rotating cylinders that were filled with liquid metal (a mercury-like substance) called Xerum 525. When operating, the machine generated strong radiation. Despite losing the lives several scientists, Hitler persisted in the project which leads to speculation that he felt he was on to something big.

Die Glock

Die Glocke mysteriously disappeared at the end of World War II and reportedly reappear 20 years later in 1965 Kecksburg, PA falling from the sky in a controlled landing. The US Army arrived quickly on the scene to collect the device and hush the local witnesses.

Secret US Time Traveler Program

Finally, the program also introduced us to a secret government program that allegedly recruited children to time travel throughout their lives. One such participant in the program was Andrew Basiago who claims he was in attendance at the Gettysburg Address.

Well, if it does exist that would be awesome. I mean think of the possible vacations you could take with something like that! And realistically, I don’t see why anyone would really want to change anything given it could potentially prevent them from ever being born at all.

Where would you go if you had a time machine? Tell me in the comments below.

Have I mentioned how much I effing love this show? This week The Unsealed File, which airs in syndication on KTLA channel 5 in the LA metro region, covered the top 10 alien plots for the human race. Some of these are out of this world crazy and others hit a little too close to home. I’m not sure what the criteria is for the order they chose, whether it was by most far-fetched, most popular, most bizarre … I really have no idea how this list was constructed. But here goes:

10. Alien Moon Base

Ufologists believe that NASA has captured photos of an alien established a base and other structures on the dark side of the moon. A quick Google search reveals several recent articles claiming NASA has photoshopped images to remove the structures. The theory here is that when the US sent astronauts to the moon it was a giant step for mankind in the sense that we were there to establish relations with the aliens already stationed there.

9. Alien – Human Hybrids

This theory centers around the belief that there are three types of aliens that we know of, one being the sinister Grays. It is presumed that the Grays are no longer able to reproduce and therefore need our help whether willingly or not. Those that believe they were abducted have tales of observing bizarre reproductive experiments.

8. Underwater Extraterrestrials

This one hits close to home for me. A couple of years back there was a strange trail in the sky off the coast of Santa Monica. Initial news reports were at a loss for the cause and we were all waiting for JPL to take credit for launching a missile test. But they never did. Instead, we were told it was a mist trail from a plane. Given that I’ve spent all but three of my 39 years on this planet living in the LA metro and Orange County areas I have to say I’ve never seen a plane do anything like that before. And there are at least four airports nearby that are right on the coast. I have seen rocket launches that looked like it.

The Unsealed Files showed footage of something being launched directly out of the ocean and claimed there are three large cement structures underneath the Pacific between Catalina and the San Pedro / Pallos Verdes area. Apparently there is a Los Angeles triangle (similar to the Bermuda triangle) where the majority of UFO sightings occur in Southern California. My money’s on secret government testing for this one. After all we have JPL, Edwards AFB, Camp Pendleton and 29 Palms all close by.

Missile California

7. Alien Bio-warfare

This theory is that aliens are strike us with non-terrestrial biological agents. Two examples cited include:

  1. Red rain in Kerala, India allegedly caused by a passing meteor that entered our atmosphere. The rain contained cells not of Earth origin.
  2. Villagers in Peru becoming ill after a meteorite crashed nearby.

 6. Aliens vs. Nuclear Weapons

Are aliens attempting to stop us from destroying the planet with nukes? The stories here seem totally out of this world. Examples included reports of a silver orb shooting beams of light into the warhead of a launched missile and an object hovering over Malmstrom AFB that shut down 10 Minuteman nuclear missiles.

5. The Alien-Human Pact

Ufologists believe that President Eisenhower had at least three secret meetings at Holloman AFB with alien leaders from other worlds for the purpose of forming a treaty.

THE PLATO PACT, 1953, U.S.A

This treaty allowed for the Americans to benefit from advanced alien technology and the aliens to benefit from human DNA to upgrade the genetics of their species.

The treaty permitted the aliens to abduct American citizens for limited vivisection so long as they were replaced unharmed with no memory of the ordeal.

The treaty also allowed for the aliens to operate in underground bases on American territory and for the Americans to utilise the alien craft and technology to build bases on the moon and Mars. – by David Ash

4. The Reptilian Threat

I think of all the plots, for me this was the craziest. This is the belief that there is an underground cult of reptilian humanoids that disguise themselves as humans and seek out power positions such as celebrities and world leaders. George W. Bush and Queen Elizabeth II have both been accused of being reptilians.

3. Gods of the Ancient World

In this theory, Ufologists point to oddly shaped remains of ancient leaders. Specifically, they point to King Akhenaten whose remains included an unusually elongated skull, tall lanky frame and very long fingers (very different from every else of his time and place). Additionally, hieroglyphs indicate knowledge of advanced technology and even UFOs. Take a look at this and tell me what you think in the comments.

egypt3dwall

2. Alien Implants

For the purpose of controlling mankind, apparently aliens are implanting pieces of meteor rock inside humans. Dr. Roger Leir was interviewed as the premier surgeon specializing in the removal of alien implants. He claimed that the implants have been analyzed in a lab and are not of this Earth. He stated that his patients all described a similarly chilling feeling of euphoric freedom when the implants were in their bodies.

1. Aliens and the Nazis

And finally, for the mother of all alien plots, did the Nazis leverage alien technology? Pilots from both sides of the war reported seeing balls of light flying with them. These objects were named Foo Fighters. The belief is that Hitler’s scientists salvaged technology from downed alien spacecraft to develop super weapons. However, if Hitler did have such advanced technology, I think it highly unlikely that Germany would not have won the war. And as we all know, they lost. So I think we can safely assume, it either didn’t exist, he didn’t have it or he didn’t know what to do with it.

The second half hour of The Unsealed Files that aired in syndication on KTLA channel 5 Los Angeles this last Saturday night centered on remote viewing. Otherwise known as clairvoyance, ESP, out-of-body experiences and astral projection, remote viewing is the ability to tap into a network of all existing information and visualize another location remotely. Featured on the show were leaders and experts in the field that worked directly for the U.S. programs Scannate, Stargate and Psy Ops.

In the 1970s the U.S. learned that Russia was investing millions of dollars into the study of this branch of paranormal and, most importantly, was realizing meaningful benefits through the program. Not to be trumped by the Russians during the Cold War, the U.S. decided to invest roughly $50k into an exploratory study conducted at Stanford Research Insititute. Ingo Swann, a talented remote viewing, was the first test subject in phase one.  The study was initially conducted by hiding objects in boxes and envelops (think Bill Murray in Ghostbusters). Ingo very quickly asked why his skills were being trivialized with tests such as these and instead proposed to test what he called coordinate remote viewing. Give him any coordinates, longitude and latitude, and he would describe what he saw. The results were very good, 85% accuracy.

As I’m sure you can see, there are all kinds of serious implications to the government having a staff of people with this ability. Peer into a nuclear facility in North Korea or Iran for one. View the inner workings of an Al Queda training camp. Spy on your next door neighbor. Well you get the picture.

Stargate

With the success of the program more money was invested and more remote viewers were added; 22 were providing data at one point. They all had one common characteristic. Every remote viewer claimed to have had some level of contact with extraterrestrials at some point in their lives. Some notable viewings that took place included the following:

  • Jupiter Rings – On April 27, 1973, Ingo Swann was asked to remotely view Jupitor in advance of a Voyager probe mission. He described rings around Jupiter and was dismissed as having viewed Saturn instead. When the Voyager arrived 1979, pictures sent back confirmed Ingo’s recall that Jupiter did in fact have thin rings that were not visible through our telescopes.

  • Ancient Mars Base – Remote viewers were given coordinates to view a location in space. They were not told it what it was or that it was on Mars. All of the viewers described an ancient base with underground tunnels and a laboratory that was active with humanoids.

Oddly after investing millions of dollars into Stargate in 1993, the program was dismantled in 1995. Unsealed Files speculated that perhaps it has gone underground since it had already garnered so much public notoriety.

Psy Ops

Remote viewing as a private commercial enterprise has emerged in place of the government funded program. With the ability to remote view locations on Earth, in space and potentially in the human mind, there are all sorts of scary applications for the practice. Talk about Big Brother. Controlling elections, controlling the stock market and global economy, controlling our minds.

Queue Twilight Zone theme. The show ended with a chilling thought. Who’s watching whom? If all of the remote viewers claim to have had an alien encounter, is remote viewing being used against us by another species of life form?

Take Me To Your Leader

This week’s Unsealed Alien Files treated us to a long history of presidential alien encounters dating back to George Washington. We learned that not only have presidents seen unidentified flying objects but may also have gone so far as to meet with extraterrestrial beings and brought concerns of an alien threat to the UN.

1866 lithograth of George Washington as a Free Mason with what appears to be a UFO drawn in the background.

Our story began with George Washington leading a rag tag regiment through the Valley Forge leaving a trail of blood in the snow. He was demoralized and left into the woods to pray. It was at this point that reportedly an other worldly being approach George and showed him a map of the United States. Only this map showed the future. Drops of water fell on the map, each droplet revealing a city that was destined to exist in future America.

Later still, Mr Washington was once again visited by green humanoid figures that appeared to be jumping out of a glowing orb. He attributed the sighting to some sort of local native Americans, however there was another observer and both incidents were published in newspapers of the day and age.

In 1952, America was plagued with UFO sightings from coast to coast. Many of the sightings were brushed off as cold war paranoia, for if aliens existed why didn’t they show up on the White House lawn? Well they practically did. On July 19, 1952 an air traffic controller reported seven unidentified flying objects ranging in speeds from 100 to 750 miles per hour approaching DC from the south. They spent several hours hovering over the Pentagon, Capital Hill and the White House. It was at this point that President Truman actually admitted the existence of these UFOs publicly.

Our last three presidents have denied any knowledge of aliens, however Nixon, Carter and Reagan all have alien encounter stories.

Jimmy Carter while delivering a speech in 1969 at a school in Leary, GA observed an orb in the sky that affected him to the point of submitting a report to the International UFO Bureau. There were 12 other witnesses at the event.

Ronald Reagan while flying in his Cessna to Bakersfield, CA observed a strange glowing orb in the sky that he followed for sometime before it shot up straight into the heavens. The plane was piloted by a retired Air Force Colonel who also witnessed the event and later reported it. This was Reagan’s second sighting. He was so much a believer that he even addressed the United Nations on the subject:

Nixon’s story seems to me a bit more folklore than the other two. In 1973, President Nixon was on the 18th hole to kick off a fundraising event for Jackie Gleeson who happened to be an avid UFO enthusiast. Gleeson was apparently hounding Nixon for any knowledge, any proof of alien existence and Nixon was adamantly denying any such knowledge. At around midnight that night, Nixon arrived at Gleeson’s room in his own private car without a secret service escort. He took Gleeson to the Homestead Air Force Base and showed him alien remains in a refrigerated container that looked like a Coke dispenser. Gleeson later shared the events with his wife Beverly McKittrick who recounted the story to Esquire magazine after his death, although it had already leaked years earlier much to Gleeson’s dismay.

Holloman Air Force Base was the location for the one of the only known (or shall I say speculated) arranged meetings with aliens. President Eisenhower allegedly landed on Air Force One and held a meeting with extraterrestrial beings directly on the tarmac.

Whether you believe in aliens or not, you gotta admit The Unsealed Files makes for great ghost stories. I can’t wait to see what they have in story next week.

This week’s episode of The Unsealed Files treated viewers to the story of the Solway Firth Spaceman. On May 23, 1964, long before Photoshop, Jim Templeton visited the Burgh Marsh and took three photos of his daughter. Once he developed the film, he discovered the second image was photo bombed by a mysterious figure.

I know, I know… you’re all laughing at how ridiculous this picture looks. As the story goes, Kodak offered a lifetime supply of film to anyone who could debunk the authenticity of this picture. The prize was never claimed.

Shortly after the day time excursion with his daughter, Mr. Templeton asserts he was visited by two men in black that insisted a second spaceman was there as well and who were very aggressive in attempting to intimidate Jim into not speaking any further of this experience.

Here’s where it gets spooky. Nearby the Burgh Marsh was a facility that manufactured British ballistic missiles, including the Blue Streak missile. Not long after this photo was taken, the Blue Streak missile was set for a test launch at Woomera Test Range in Australia. The launch sequence was aborted because two figures resembling the Solway Firth Spaceman walked across the launch pad.

Below is a video of Jenny Randles who investigated this story for another program.

Top 10 Conspiracy Theories of All Time

The second half hour of the show focused on the holy grail of conspiracy theories. Not a lot of background was covered for each story, given the limited time slot and need for commercial breaks.

The top 10 included, but not necessarily in this order:

  • HAARP – controlling weather for the purpose of warfare.
  • Chemtrails – expelling biological and chemical agents into the air for some sort of diabolical government plan.
  • Project MKUltra – mind control through LSD and shock therapy.
  • Roswell – alien crash site or weather balloon?
  • Area 51 – not much of a conspiracy theory anymore, the government admitted its existance back in the ’90s.
  • US Moon Landing – was it really a Hollywood stunt directed by Stanley Kubrik to demoralize the Russians?
  • Was Jesus Married? Was Mary Magdalene Jesus’ wife and did they have children? A newly discovered ancient text was rejected by the Vatican but many disagree.
  • Did Hitler Really Commit Suicide? – or did he stow away on a German sub that surfaced in South America?
  • New World Order – do the Free Masons control the world
  • And #1 was Who Shot JFK – did Harvey Lee Oswald have the precision and weapon necessary to shoot JFK in the precise manner that it happened?

Sweet dreams my pretties. 🙂

Occasionally, I will re-visit movies I did not care for when I initially viewed them from time-to-time.

When the movie “Nixon” came out, I did not particularly care for it…I didn’t think it was “bad” – just not enjoyable at the time for me.

I watched it again this past weekend and appreciated it far more than I did the first time. Anthony Hopkins STILL wasn’t a convincing Tricky Dick, but I found the subject matter a bit more interesting in this stage of my life.

I call these The Delusional Years.

Please share movies that deserve a second chance.

I have a rousing review of “Showgirls” that contrasts my initial review in the works.
