From time to time, we here at the Cantina Crew like to highlight the creative works of our fans and Crewmates. After all, our website and social media platforms grow on the premise of community. Some of the works we highlight are directly related to Star Wars and others are off topic.

Today, we will focus on the artistic stylings of Sean Petrilak. Below are some Star Wars related drawings that he has kindly shared with us for this exposé.

seanpetrilak_starbuckscantina

A natural phenomenon, Crewmate Sean Petrilak’s earliest works began in utero where he marked his mother’s womb with a 36 pack of crayons. A true marvel and wonder to the scientific community, these caveman like drawings are still the subject of much speculation and study today. Since conception, his life has been a simple, steady progression of drawing, Star Wars, drawing, Legos and did I say drawing?

death sticks

Early in his career Sean dabbled in live action where he acquired an unusual client list in the music industry. Some of his clients include Lady Gaga, Kanye West, Rihanna, P Diddy and other various clients he is unable to disclose at this time due to confidentiality agreements.

Part of the elite team at Disney, Sean is currently a storyboard artist focusing on comedic drawings, filming funny things and just plain tickling people’s funny bones. Recently, he finished storyboarding the TV series Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness, Ultimate Spiderman and other various projects.

Sean’s ambitions aren’t entirely apparent, seeing how his interests are all over the place. But his passions are presently storyboarding, directing, writing and illustrating. You can find more of Sean’s works atwww.seanpetrilak.blogspot.com (blog) or www.seandrawsstories.com (portfolio site).

Given that our core founding members all hailed from the off topic forum at the old official Star Wars message board, we want everyone to feel comfortable sharing and discussing any number of things, not just Star Wars, as variety is the spice of life. If you have any arts, crafts or written works you would like to share with the Crew, please feel welcome to contact us at any time.

A dear old friend of mine, I’ve known Gerrixx since 1990 when we met through mutual friends and spent many Saturdays dancing the night away at the long forgotten Club Post Nuclear in Laguna Canyon, CA. While most of us kids have had to stop dying our hair crazy colors, put on a suit and carefully cover any tattoos as we transitioned into adulthood, Gerrixx has successfully become the Peter Pan of our tribe.

A talented graphic artist, Gerrixx is a well-known underground cult artist that has been creating posters, flyers, stickers, clothing and accessories for raves, eBay and other various clients.

Highlighted in this article are his Star Wars inspired t-shirts, however Gerrixx has a variety of different themes and designs all somewhat industrial and techno themed.

I applaud Gerrixx in his spectacular designs and ability to live his dream successfully for all of these years. May his future continue to be prosperous and inspiring.

The Best Coast’s answer to those muggy old Star Wars Weekends down in stinky, steamy Florida. :p

How did I not know about this wonderful unofficial event? I love Star Wars, I love Disneyland. In fact, I’ve had premium annual passports on at least 10 different years. Yet somehow this glorious event quite escaped my notice. But not THIS year!   971786_419616191469994_937053852_n-700x703

On June 30, 2013, which happily falls on a Sunday, Star Wars fans will storm the park to show their Jedi pride. At 2pm in front of Sleeping Beauty’s castle, a group photo will be taken that you can download from the organizer’s website afterwards. Get there early if you want a spot in the picture.

This is an unofficial event not sponsored by Disney. Wear your Star Wars schwag with pride, but NO COSTUMES (Sorry Boba Phat). T-shirts for this year’s event are available on eBay (while supplies last). Proceeds from t-shirt sales benefit the American Cancer Society.

Enjoy Star Tours, the Jedi Training Academy and other everyday attractions as well as the group photo. If you keep your eyes peeled, you may just spot good ole Crazy Mayzie running around in the crowd. MTFBWYA!!

Jeff Pitcher loves playing with his action figures. So much that’s he created a video collection to highlight each of these wonderful treasures. Here’s a few of Jeff’s vintage Kenner figure videos:

Everybody’s favorite furry, Chewbacca sporting green limbs!

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AAiOP-CYWm4&w=560&h=315]

Who’s the Bossk? Just look at his big happy face and his CHiPs tight jumpsuit! He comes in both orange and green. (Keep you’re mind out of the gutter : p)

He doesn’t like you… I don’t like you either! Don’t like the pink tusks? Just scratch that ass off!

Set your phasers for stunning! Vintage Greedo is here sporting an anatomically incorrect package. I’m thinking he didn’t shoot first.

Or maybe not? As Episode VII production continues, so does speculation. Every fan has their own “perfect” casting ideas, story line suggestions and now… trailers.

You see this isn’t a real trailer, how could it be? J.J. Abrams was just on Jimmy Kimmel and said they’re working on story ideas now and it’s still in the developmental process, so it would be impossible for a trailer to already have been released.

But that doesn’t make it any less fun. One of the things about current technology and social media is, fan made material has a much bigger audience than it ever did before. And when you have a franchise as big as Star Wars, with a built in fan base as large as it has, you’re going to see some really cool stuff (and some not so cool) leading up to the big day.

Here is the first in the line up of what will be many fan made trailers over the next couple of years.

This particular trailer is actually a made from footage of a costume test by Julian Checkley  of “Order 66 Creatures and Effects”, having fun with of one of the characters (Darth Malgus) from the ‘Knights Of The Old Republic’ video game. It’s not an official costume, just a bit of fan made fun.

And of course in the case of the first video, a fan saw the footage and decided to have their own fun.

It may not be much and can’t compare to the real thing, but with 2 years to go and not a lot of information to run with yet, this kind of stuff is not only a good time killer, but a mood setter for one of the most anticipated trilogies of all time.

So as our site grows one of our goals was to be able to get reports from our crew mates around the globe from the various annual conventions.

Many of our original members have all met up at numerous “Star Wars Celebration” conventions, but it’s great to get a look at some of the other events that take place in our community, especially for those of us who can’t always make the trip.

And speaking of which, the DCC took place this passed weekend and our friend Matt was there to report all the details…

[Matt] As we pulled up to the massive Sandcrawler, or Dallas Comic-Con last weekend we encountered another universe. A multi-fanatic convention filled with Marvel superheroes, sci-fi geeks from the epic Star Wars to the ground breaking Trekkies and of course, we cannot forget the Dr. Who extraordinaire fans.  As you know, everything is bigger in Texas and the 20,000 plus crowd confirmed that. There was excitement everywhere ranging from the notorious actors to the all aspiring artists.

dallas-comic-con-sand-crawlerdallas-comic-con-crowd

We purchased a 3 day pass in advance but we still suffered with anticipation in an hour long line to get in. Once we finally entered, the crowd cheered. The first place we headed was to get the first ever offered Dallas Comic-Con exclusive Reverse Flash POP Figurine and Dallas Comic-Con t-shirt. Unfortunately, the phantom menace must’ve taken the shirts, they were all sold out. The 2nd place we headed was the vendor room, where there was a tremendous amount of memorabilia all around us, modern/vintage toys, comics, posters, replicas, t-shirts, etc. It was a collectors’ paradise.

dallas-comic-con-wookieAfter a few hours and a couple of paychecks spent later, we headed to the 4th floor escalator which had a line all the way out of the front door to the William Shatner Q & A.

Unfortunately, the ‘force’ was not with us and the Darkside was against us because when it was our turn, they cut the line off…. sadly, it wasn’t meant to be.

On the bright side, we ran into the 10 ft. tall Wookie from the 501st, which made us feel like small little Ewoks. Aside from that, we parted from the line to meet Ernie Hudson, Kevin Conroy, Adam Baldwin, John Morton aka Dak from The Empire Strikes Back, John Noble and many others.

Before heading back down to the main floor, we went to the artist room where we discovered very talented artists that were willing to do custom commissions for us. We left with several pieces including Boba Fett, Iron Man, Bioshock, Dead Space and Sucker Punch prints and sketches to add to our collection.

We made several new friends and reunited with familiar ones.

Most of them were dressed in costumes, from the classic Iron Man to the unforgettable Johnny-5, along with the usual fantastic 501st crew, Darth Vader, and many other Sith and Jedi.

Overall, the weekend was awesome! As we exited the Sandcrawler, we looked back and said, see you at Fan Days in October 2013.

I see you have constructed a new rocket, young Dave. Now your skills are complete.

Crew mate Dave Bucher put his Jedi skills to use by designing and building a fleet of rockets using Star Wars sipper toppers sold as promotional items during the release of Episode I The Phantom Menace. He fastened the toppers to 4″ dia. Crayon rocs with military style cruciform fins with G motors and has flown them at Shawnee Mission Park in Kansas.

934900_459571574119622_1430584940_n

The Captain Tarples rocket served as ‘proof of concept” model flying with three D12-5 motors. Most of the rockets are clusters except for the Darth Vader that has a single 29mm motor mount and was flown at LDRS 30 with an F motor and an altimeter.
The Captain Tarpels and the Darth Maul have both flown. The Tarpels has flown a dozen times at least. When they are finished they will all be featured in an article for the National Association of Rocketry or NAR and will represent about 300 hours of work. The Darth Vader kids lawn sprinkler has flown at Lucerne test range at the Tripoli Association of Rocketry’s, or the TRA’s annual launch…LDRS and featured in a Discovery Channel feature. His carrier is not finished either! – Dave Bucher
sw-rockets
The entire collection is featured online at the Cantina Crew Facebook page in the album titled Creature Team Rockets. Look for exciting things to come as Dave shoots for the stars to realize his dream.

Crew mate and actor Dave Walpole and Merritt Artist Management is on a mission to use his Jedi skills for good. Their goal is to raise $6,500 to help developing countries obtain clean drinking water. Each time the below video receives a “view,” 100% of the marketing dollars from site advertising goes directly to this cause. There are no personal gains for Mr. Walpole or Merritt Artist Management as LFL only permits this sort of licensing in the case of non-profits.

Information from my.charitywater,org:

Water is necessary for life, and not just on Tatooine

It’s a known fact that the majority of your body is made up of water, and the average person would survive only 3-5 days without it.

If given the choice, would you want inside you “clean water”, or the water that kills 5,000 children a day?

Many of us live in countries where “clean water” is in abundance and readily available. I’m sure you would agree that we could not imagine ourselves traveling great distances to acquire it. We could not imagine ourselves using contaminated water to cook our food, grow our crops, or simply clean our children, R2 units and ourselves. We live on Earth not on Naboo.

Join me in my quest to provide developing countries clean water, a right we all deserve. You’ve seen my video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3AY-gmpbcw&w=560&h=315

You know that I’m donating my proceeds to this campaign. Now it’s your turn.

100% of the money we raise will go directly water project costs, funding long-lasting clean water solutions for people in need. When the projects are finished, charity: water will show us the exact communities we’ve helped using photos and GPS coordinates.

Whether you be a Sith Lord, Jedi Master, part of the Rebellion or evil Empire, be “THE FORCE” for clean water!

Thank you,

-Dave Walpole
