Okay, so the internet (at least the dark corners in which Game Of Thrones fans dwell) has been a buzz about one of GOT’s “stars” refusing to do anymore nude scenes.

Apparently in a recent interview with The Telegraph, Oona Chaplin who plays Robb Stark’s wife, Talisa Maegyr was quoted as saying “One of the girls in the show who got her kit off the most in the first couple of seasons now doesn’t at all because she said, ‘I want to be known for my acting not for my breasts.’”

Of course this news hits just as episode 8 “Second Sons” airs and both Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen) and Carice Van Houten (Melisandre) are featured in their own respective nude scenes. And as “luck” (as in luckily for us) would have it, both have appeared in scenes without clothing before.

Now I don’t know where the “star” part came about in all these reports, but broken telephone on the internet can be a helluva thing. I’m reading “leading actress says no to nudity” and other misleading titles that have had pretty much every fanboy of both The Silver Queen and Melisandre praying to the old gods, the new gods, the lord of light and anybody else who would listen that it wasn’t true.

The thing is, nowhere in Ms. Chaplin’s quotes do I see anything about it being one of the stars.

game-of-thrones-robb-talisa“I’m quite controversial when it comes to that because I adore women’s bodies.

“If it’s done in a beautiful way, in a way that honours the female form, then I’m always happy to see it.”

“The objectification lies in the eye of the beholder, just like beauty. I’m really comfortable getting my kit off, so, if they want to, I’m like, ‘yeah, bring it, I’m naked, no problem.’”

Besides that, the fact that we just saw both Daenerys and The Red Witch in the aforementioned scenes pretty much disproves any speculation that it could be them to begin with, but let’s look at the situation anyway before I get to who it more likely is.

Melisandre and Dany’s nude scenes make sense as part of the story (I know, easy for a raving Daenerys fan to say) but Melisandre has demonstrated that she’ll use what she will to manipulate those around her. She is a seductress, not only in the sense of her sexuality but through the use of her god as well.

And Daenerys, she’s transitioned from basically something that could be sold, into a take no shit leader of 8000 free men. A badass chick who doesn’t need to cower in front of a man, naked or not. She doesn’t flinch when a slave owner from Astapor tells her c-u-next-Tuesday, so she’s not going to worry about being seen in the bath.

“A fortnight ago I had no army. A year ago I had no dragons”

I think it’s more likely that the actress she’s talking about is Esmé Bianco (Ros). She was pretty much nude in every scene in the first season, whether it be a sex scene in the background of Baelish’s whore house for decoration, or flashing Theon as one last goodbye. It was basically Ros’ role in the story up until season 3, at which point she was no longer nude. Anybody who’s caught up with the show will know that she was also killed off this season, a fate not uncommon for a minor character who makes demands above their pay grade.

And if that’s the reason she was killed off it’s a shame because I liked Ros, not because of the nude scenes (although they didn’t make my eyes sore) but I thought she could grow into an interesting character after learning more from Littlefinger than he had intended.

I also fucking hate Joffrey, so the fact that he was the trigger man makes it that more annoying.

Could Oona just….

be trying to create a little buzz of her own considering Robb is about to meet his end and she may be killed off herself?
….Or is it just media sources quick to grab a more interesting headline? It’s most likely the latter.

Anyway, here’s a teaser for the next episode.
