It seems an easy out to simply offer prayers during a time of crisis. While well intended, for those that are religious the act of praying is a wonderful thing, to put your faith in God. But on the other hand it may simply be passing accountability to God to solve problems rather than just roll up our sleeves.

Comedian and actor Ricky Gervais, a long time opposer of organized religion  has been very vocal about this flaw in our logic. As a result, he stirred backlash on Twitter for those tweeting #PrayForOklahoma and has instead encouraged everyone to tweet #ActuallyDoSomethingForOklahoma. And I have to admit he has a strong point.

As such, I want to make sure everyone has access to a legitimate charity where your money will aid victims of these tragedies. Please visit the Red Cross and open not only your heart and mind, but your wallet. Be generous.

If you prefer to have something tangible in exchange for your donation, please visit Must Stash to purchase these lovely t-shirts created by Mike McMahon, admin of The Classic Nerd Facebook page. Shirts are $20.00 and 100% of proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross.

Much love from Mayzie.
